RESEARCH ASSISTANT III Clinical Disciplines Faculty of Medicine (Two-Year Contractual Position, Subject to Renewal) The University will consider applications from qualified permanent staff who may be interested in a temporary assignment, subject to departmental approval DUTIES Under the direction of the Assistant Dean, Clinical Research, the successful applicant will provide research leadership to clinical disciplines in the Faculty of Medicine and will perform advanced professional and technical research work. Duties: include providing expert biostatistical analysis for faculty and residents, and leading project teams in the planning, developing and writing of research proposals; conducting literature reviews; biostatistical analysis on specific areas and writing reports, drafting manuscripts, and presentations on specific research studies; designing clinical trials and other non-experimental studies (for example cohort and case controlled studies); designing randomized controlled clinical trials; quantitative data analysis and interpretation; liaising with other university departments, including the Research Initiatives & Services (RIS), Research & Graduate Studies (MED) Office, the Health Research Ethics Authority (HREA), and Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services (NLHS) on various research topics; ensuring professional and ethical standards are maintained for research projects; and performing other related duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS Experience (3-5 years) with designing research studies focusing on quantitative research (experience with qualitative and/or mixed methods research would be considered an asset) within a health care research environment and in-depth knowledge of biostatistical methods and data management software (preferably SPSS, Stata, SAS, or R) as well as a PhD, preferably in either biostatistics, clinical epidemiology, health research or a related field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, and will possess significant, demonstrated experience with data collection (e.g., surveys, data linkage), expert biostatistical analysis, and data management, developing research protocols, manuscript writing and publishing, as well as organizational, team leadership, problem solving and effective communication skills (written and verbal). An ability to adhere to strict deadlines both independently and in partnership with others is required. Knowledge of the research process at MUN, as well as knowledge and experience designing clinical trials would be considered assets.
