ABOUT THIS POSITION The Centre de services scolaire de la Pointe-de-l’Île (CSSPI) is looking to meet potential candidates to act as a laboratory technician for a full-time replacement position. JOB TYPE Full-time replacement position. START DATE As soon as possible. REMUNERATION Hourly rate of $24.21 to $32.32 as per the current collective agreement. JOB DESCRIPTION The primary and regular role of the employee in this job class is to assist teaching staff and students in the preparation, presentation, supervision, and evaluation of laboratory, internship, or workshop work. Additionally, they may be called upon to perform attendant tasks. This role also involves, in collaboration with teaching staff, ensuring that students adhere to safety rules during practical work, use equipment appropriately, and employ suitable techniques. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES In collaboration with teaching staff, the employee in this job class demonstrates, provides instructions, advises, and guides students in laboratory experiments; ensures compliance with safety rules, including standards for the use and storage of hazardous products. They participate in evaluating student work. They may also act as a monitor or tutor. In consultation with teaching staff, they plan the schedule of experiments and the use of equipment and facilities; prepare experiments, equipment, and necessary chemicals; test and, if necessary, modify these experiments and may develop new ones. They may participate in organizing exhibitions. They participate in the selection of devices, tools, machines, and instruments; they also calibrate, maintain, and repair them; they oversee the inventory of equipment, prepare purchase orders, and monitor the budget allocated to their area. They may be required to use a computer and various software necessary for their work or conduct research on the Internet. They may be called upon to assist personnel in using software specific to their work. They must participate in the Eureka educational program in connection with primary schools. They may be required to prepare training for prestim. They may be required to train less experienced technicians and coordinate the work of support staff in tasks related to the execution of technical operations programs for which they are responsible. As needed, they perform any other related tasks. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Hold a college diploma in laboratory techniques or hold a diploma or attestation of studies whose equivalence is recognized by the competent authority.
