State Schools’ Relief (SSR) is a not-for-profit organisation that improves the lives of tens of thousands disadvantaged Victorian students every year. We are seeking a hard-working, insightful accountant who wants to grow and progress in their field. As the Assistant Accountant, you will support the achievement of our strategic mission: to ensure Victorian students have every opportunity to achieve their maximum potential regardless of any disadvantage which may occur as a result of their family situation. You will provide support to the Accountant and take responsibility for end-to-end transactional finance processes such as accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. Automation experience will be highly beneficial given that SSR is moving to a paperless office and automating many of its manual processes. This role will play an integral part in implementation of automation and is the first point of call for our suppliers and internal staff for financial matters. The role also supports the Accountant in managing records and receipts, reconciliation of monthly transactions, as well as supporting the Executive with ad-hoc projects and tasks as required. Responsibilities include: Take responsibility for end-to-end transactional finance functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, supplier payments, debt collection etc. Assist month-end closing, including help with preparation of accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet account reconciliations. Assist and participate in the production, finalisation and submission of monthly, quarterly and annual regulatory returns (BAS, FBT, PAYG). Assist with monthly cash flow forecast preparation. Participate in and support the delivery of internal and external audit processes. Collaborate across the business to deliver on process improvements and enhancing data integrity of our business systems. Maintain and enhance relationships with customers and suppliers. Assist and provide support to all our key suppliers though the AP automation Implementation Including hosting training sessions and over the phone support. Conduct regular Internal audits to ensure our processes and controls are adequate. Assist with process improvement and adoption of technology and changes throughout the organisation. General administration duties such as maintaining general office supplies, document management, archiving etc. Develop and maintain Internal process documentation. Assist the executive team with ad hoc reporting. About You. You will have the ability and passion to work closely with stakeholders to develop a deep understanding of the business you support. You will have excellent communication, including the ability to prepare clear, concise outputs from detailed financial analysis to enable informed decision-making. KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Skills and experience required. Financial processing experience. Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Tertiary qualifications, preferably in accounting, finance or commerce. Excellent interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and confidentiality. Strong problem-solving ability. Ability to understand information technology systems, especially business systems. Knowledge of Microsoft Business Central would be very beneficial. An interest in and desire to contribute to the educational vision, values and planning and strategies of SSR.
