We currently are looking for APS6 Lawyers to support the AAT DR&L Branch to fill multiple new vacancies within the NDIA’s Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) Dispute Resolution & Litigation (DR&L Branch in the Chief Counsel Division. The division is the Agency’s in-house legal practice servicing the Agency with legal advice and litigation support services on merits review matters for participants in the AAT. AAT disputes between the Agency and participants might arise in a number of contexts, including disputes about access to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), NDIS plan supports and these disputes might occur in state or territory courts, federal courts or tribunals. Where you can add value As an APS6 Lawyer, your work will be guided by legislation, policies, procedures, standards, methodologies and precedents. The position is required to provide detailed technical, professional, policy, operational support and advice in relation to complex problems. Where required, the role will coordinate and assist in the strategic planning, program and project management and policy development that support the legal aspects of administrative appeals cases in the AAT. The APS6 Lawyer will have a considerable level of public contact in relation to complex, difficult or sensitive issues. It is required to liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders in a representational role on behalf of the branch/division/NDIA. Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to: Providing legal advice to the executive and business areas. Managing the priorities of clients and available resources to deliver results on time and within budget. Establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with clients and other stakeholders including courts and tribunals, other government agencies, states and territories, the legal profession, and people with disability and their representatives. Enough about us, let’s talk about you This position is within the Legal stream and the officer must possess relevant academic qualifications with admission as a legal practitioner, however described, of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory; and hold, or be able to obtain, a practising certificate. Experience in, or knowledge of the following areas will be favourable: Alternate Dispute Resolution Administrative law, statutory interpretation, and principles of good administrative decision-making. Litigation, including in Commonwealth or State/Territory Tribunals Criminal Law and process Integrity matters Employment Law. Your NDIA Experience We work as one team. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.
